Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of "R.I.P.D.," based on the Dark Horse Comic of the same name. An acronym for "Rest in Peace Department," the original "R.I.P.D." series by Peter M. Lenkov and Lucas Marangon followed Nick Cruz, a police officer murdered in the line of duty that joins up with the R.I.P.D. following his death in exchange for a shot at finding his killer. Ryan Reynolds plays Cruz while Jeff Bridges plays his partner, Roy Powell, a fast-talking ghost in the undead-hunting business since the 19th century. The trailer follows the reveal of the film's official poster at CinemaCon and the first look at Bridges and Reynolds in action earlier this month.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, "R.I.P.D." hits theaters July 19 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Mary Louise-Parker, Kevin Bacon, Mike O'Malley, Stephanie Szostak, James Hong, Robert Knepper and Marisa Miller.
