Capcom has announced plans for a CG-animated "Resident Evil" (aka "Biohazard") film, targeted for release in 2017.

Directed by Takanori Tsujimoto for Marza Animaton Planet, the feature is characterized as a reboot of the CG franchise, featuring such game characters as Chris Redfield, Rebecca Chambers and Leon Kennedy.

The studio has released the first image from the project, shown above.

Capcom previously partnered with Sony for 2008's CG-animated "Resident Evil: Degeneration" and 2012's "Resident Evil: Damnation," both full-length features set within the universe of the original video games.
