The quest to find a new actor to play the young Han Solo in Disney and Lucasfilm's untitled "Han Solo" Star Wars anthology film remains underway, but one candidate has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner. 26-year-old actor Alden Ehrenreich, at this point best known for his performance in the Coen Brothers' "Hail, Caesar!", is reportedly close to taking over the role Harrison Ford made famous in 1977's "Star Wars," according to Deadline.

Last month it was reported that the massive search had been narrowed to three actors, with Ehrenreich in contention with "Kingsman: The Secret Service" star Taron Egerton and "Transformers: Age of Extinction's" Jack Reynor. If Ehrenreich is cast in the role, he will not only have beaten out the other two finalists, but as many as 2,500 actors. Ehrenreich will next be seen in Warren Beatty's will out performed some of Hollywood's finest actors who auditioned for the part. Ehrenreich's most recent breakout role was in the Cohen brothers' "Hail, Ceasaer!" He is also set to star in Warre Beatty's untitled Howard Hughes films.

The "Han Solo" movie is written by "Empire Strikes Back" and "The Force Awaknes" screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan, with "The LEGO Movie" and "21 Jump Street's" Phil Lord and Chris Miller directing. It's currently scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
