If you were hoping to experience the Thing's clobberin' time in glorious 3D, then we have some bad news for you.

According to a report on Final Reel, 20th Century Fox has cancelled the planned post-conversion processing that would have sent "Fantastic Four" to screens in 3D.

According to Final Reel, Fox replied to their inquiries about the 2D/3D question with a quote from "FF" director Josh Trank, in which he expressed his preference not to convert the film.

"I want the viewing experience of Fantastic Four to remain as pure as possible for the audience," Trank said in his statement, "which means in 2D, just as we shot the movie."

"Fantastic Four," starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell, opens on August 7.
