The Rebirth of DC Comics may see the return of the publishing line-spanning megastory, masterminded by one of its heaviest hitters.

According to a report from Bleeding Cool, all the titles featured as part of DC's upcoming "Rebirth" effort will, to some degree, interconnect as part of a larger story architected by DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. The stories, which begin May 25 with the "DC Universe: Rebirth #1" one-shot penned by Johns and drawn by Gary Frank, Ivan Reis, Phil Jimenez, and Ethan Van Sciver, are planned to run for two years, according to the report, each culminating in August 2018.

"Rebirth," which Johns has stipulated is "not a reboot," has been promised by DC co-publisher Dan Didio to be a return to the cohesive continuity-style of storytelling the company saw success with during its "Countdown to Infinite Crisis" era, paired with the "freshness and newness of the New 52." Fellow co-publisher Jim Lee has indicated that the goals of "Rebirth" are "a renewed focus on story and character."

As indicated by the report, Johns has been working in conjunction with all writers tasked with a "Rebirth" title to seed storylines and plot points. It all begs the question -- what could the stories all be building to, come August 2018? In the summer between planned releases of the "Justice League: Part 1" and "Justice League: Part 2" major motion pictures, could DC Comics see another Crisis?
