David Thewlis is the latest actor to join the cast of RED 2.

The Harry Potter actor  is slated to play The Frog, a new agent who joins Frank Moses, Joe Matheson, Victoria and the rest of the RED team in their next adventure. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, saying that The Frog is "an information dealer who got his name by poisoning the water supply at the Kremlin using a poisonous Amazonian frog."

American audiences know Thewlis best as the friendly Professor Lupin from the Harry Potter film series, so this will be a nice departure for him. We know Anthony Hopkins is in talks to play RED 2's villain, so maybe Thewlis will get to show off his villainous side as one of his henchmen instead of one of the RED team's allies. That would allow him to play around with his good-guy image a bit.

The first RED film centered on former CIA agents -- RED is an acronym for “retired, extremely dangerous” -- targeted for assassination because of the secrets they know. The $60 million movie exceeded box-office expectations, grossing nearly $200 million worldwide. The follow-up, directed by Dean Parisot and penned by RED screenwriters by Erich and Jon Hoeber, reunites the retired CIA operatives “as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe.”

RED 2 brings Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker and Helen Mirren together with newcomers Thewlis, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung-Hun Lee, Neal McDonough and potentially Hopkins. The movie is scheduled for release on Aug. 2, 2013.
