WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, now in theaters.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings introduces little-known Marvel enemies that have played a massive part in Shang-Chi's comic book history. A great example of this is the villain known as Razor Fist. As the name would imply, he is known mainly for having a massive, razor-sharp blade affixed to his arm. In the film, Razor Fist is played by Florian Munteanu, and he brings the same ferocity and power that is also seen in the comics. However, for most fans, the film is the first time they've seen the character, meaning his origins and powers are a mystery.

Who is Razor Fist?

Razor Fist taking a swing at Shang-Chi

In the comics, Razor Fist first appeared in Master of Kung Fu #29 in 1975. However, there have been three iterations of the character -- William Young, William Scott and Douglas Scott. Young's origin sees him losing both of his hands and having them replaced with razor blades by a man named Carlton Velcro. He acts as an enforcer who fights Shang-Chi until his employer's men accidentally gun him down. William and Douglas Scott are twins that both lost a hand and had them replaced by a large blade by the same man who created the original Razor Fist. The twins battled Shang-Chi, but just like the first Razor Fist, Douglas' brother was also gunned down by their employer. Douglas, on the other hand, went on to become the premiere Razor Fist and even worked with another villain, The Hood, during multiple Marvel Comics events like Secret Invasion and Seige.

Razor Fist is a highly skilled martial artist and mercenary who has taken on the likes of Shang-Chi, Wolverine, Hawkeye and even Spider-Man. However, the reason that he stands out above other mercenaries is his arm blades. Unlike most metal blades in the Marvel Universe, Razor Fist's aren't made of Adamantium or Vibranium. Instead, they are made with steel and still prove to be incredibly deadly in combat.

How Does Razor Fist Compare To His Comic Counterpart?

The comic and film versions of Razor Fist share many similarities when it comes to their characteristics. Both characters have an imposing presence made evident by their massive heights, and they also wield their blades with efficiency and ferocity. They have a strong focus on their objectives and won't stop until their mission has been a success. However, while both iterations serve powerful employers, rather than working for Carlton Velcro, the film version works for Wenwu and the Ten Rings. He's also a survivalist like Douglas Scott and is shown to survive situations that many don't walk away from, such as being in a bus that crashes into construction equipment.

But while the two versions share similar skills and characteristics, their differences are massive. Razor Fist is a mercenary in the comics, while the film version is loyal to the Ten Rings. This version of the character also only has one blade instead of two and doesn't appear to be a part of a legacy, instead being the one and only Razor Fist.

To see Razor Fist in action, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is in theaters now.
