Captain America: How Well Do You Know His Friends and Foes?
Created in 1941 by the team of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Captain America quickly became a monster hit for Marvel Comics. Before the U.S. officially entered WW2, Captain America was confronting Nazis and standing against tyranny, with readers devouring his adventures. Sales eventually slowed, leading to the title’s cancellation. Barring a brief return in 1953, wasn’t really until 1964 that readers would next encounter Cap, when he was raised from his frozen slumber in the pages of Avengers #4. He would go on to become a mainstay of the team, with a solo feature in the pages of Tales of Suspense following in 1965. In 1968, the title would morph into Captain America, #100 marking Cap’s return to his own title.
Since this point, Steve Rogers has been at the heart of the Marvel universe: a man out of time, a leader and a martyr. Whatever the circumstances, what’s remained constant is that he’s been an inspiration to countless Marvel heroes. With the current Secret Empire series highlighting a very different Steve Rogers — one who has been a long-time member of Hydra — CBR invites you to test your knowledge of Cap’s history and the friends and foes that he’s amassed along the way.
