How Well Do You REALLY Know X-Men’s Age of Apocalypse?
In 1995, Marvel Comics gave the X-Men one of their defining tales with the epic crossover “Age of Apocalypse.” Initially published over 38 issues, the crossover engulfed the whole world of X-Men in a critical and commercial success. In this massive tale, a time-traveling mutant caused the death of Charles Xavier, Professor X, in the past. This unleashed an alternate reality where the ancient mutant Apocalypse was able to take over the world and turn it into a dystopian nightmare where mutants ruled ruthlessly over the ruins of humanity.
With a number of narrative and marketing innovations, the “Age of Apocalypse” helped establish the template for the modern superhero mega-crossover. With darker, sometimes dramatically different versions of almost every major X-Men character, the alternate reality setting gave dozens of top-tier creators like Scott Lobdell, Joe Madureira, Roger Cruz and Fabian Nicieza a chance to tell truly unpredictable stories. Marvel heightened the tension by temporarily canceling all of its high-selling X-Men titles and replacing them with “Age of Apocalypse” tie-ins. Even after the popular crossover finished, it spawned some long-lasting major characters and warranted several sequels. Now, CBR wants to challenge you on your knowledge of the Age of Apocalypse. In this quiz, we’ll be testing your knowledge of the definitive X-Men epics of the 1990s.
