Following last weekend's tragedy in Las Vegas, Marvel and Netflix have decided to pull The Punisher from their New York Comic Con lineup. Deadline reports that Netflix felt it wouldn't be appropriate to showcase the series at the convention after the senseless act of violence in Las Vegas, which left 59 dead and 500 others wounded.

Marvel and Netflix released a joint statement on the decision, which reads,

We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.

Many fans had speculated that Netflix could surprise everyone and release the series after New York Comic Con, as they've continued to play coy regarding a release date for the series. However, given the current circumstances, that seems unlikely now.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Farah Madani, and Paul Schulze as Rawlins, with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in an undisclosed role. The series is slated to debut on Netflix this year.
