Screenwriter Rob Edwards, who penned Disney's Princess and the Frog, has been hired for Warner Bros.' comic-book adaptation Amulet and Disney's Animated American, Variety reports.

Set up in 2008 as a vehicle for siblings Willow and Jaden Smith, Amulet is based on the Scholastic graphic novels by Kazu Kibuishi about a brother and sister who move into the house of their late great-grandfather, where they discover they're the last in a line of gatekeepers of a foreboding mystical world populated by monsters and talking animals. The must quickly learn to control a powerful amulet and rescue their abducted mother and save the world.

Will Smith and his partner James Lassiter are producing through Overbrook Entertainment, but it's unknown whether Willow and Jaden are still attached.

Animated American, from producers Robert Zemeckis and Bob Cooper, centers on an animated baby raised by a live-action family until he turns 18, when he decides he must find his real parents with the help of his friend and her jealous boyfriend.
