Finally, is there anything else you want to share with fans about your booth and plans for Comic-Con International?

Stop by, we look forward to seeing loads of new and old fans.

Boom Studios

They’ve got some popular series and popular creators working for them, which has helped make Ross Richie’s Boom! Studios one of the hottest new comic companies in years. Richie told us all about the company’s CCI plans.

Who is your company and what do you do, publish, etc?

We are BOOM! Studios. Most fans will be familiar with “Hero Squared” by
Keith Giffen, JM DeMatteis, and Joe Abraham, but we also publish “X Isle,” written by Andrew Cosby and Michael Alan Nelson with art from Greg Scott and “Talent,” written by Christopher Golden and Tom Sniegoski with art by Paul Azaceta. Our other titles include: “Cthulhu Tales,” “Tag” “Stardust Kid,” “Jeremiah Harm,” “Second Wave,” Joe Casey’s “The Black Plague,” “The Savage Brothers,” “Whisper,” “What Were They Thinking?!” And the upcoming Yoshitaka Amano’s “Hero” hardcover.

BOOM! Studios is a creator-driven company that works with some of the biggest names in the business, like Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, Mark Waid, Dave Johnson, Mike Ploog, Alan Grant, Joe Casey, Steven Grant, Yoshitaka Amano, and some high profile screenwriters like John Rogers, the writer of the upcoming “Transformers” movie and “Rush Hour 3,” as well as Andrew Cosby, creator of the Sci Fi Network TV show “Eureka,” and Johanna Stokes, who’s also a writer on “Eureka.” We’ve got some gorgeous art from guys like Joe Abraham, Greg Scott, Paul Azaceta, Chee, Kody Chamberlain, Rafael Albuquerque, Julia Bax, and a host of other talented creators.

Where can we find your booth at the convention? Any big flashing lights,
signs or anything else we should keep our eyes open for?

Our booth number is 1531.

If you’re looking for Yoshitaka Amano, the creator of “Battle of the Planets” aka “G-Force,” “Vampire Hunter D,” “Final Fantasy,” and scads of other ground-breaking Japanese genre franchises, he’ll be signing at the BOOM! booth an exclusive edition of “Hero” that’s available only at the show and limited to 500 copies. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

We’ll also be debuting a video game based on one of our comic books, “The Savage Brothers,” and showcasing some video games based on a big license we just signed.

Come by and see some of the biggest creators in the business!

What do you have for sale or distribution at the booth? Any convention
exclusives?

As we mentioned before, a San Diego Comicon exclusive version of “Hero” as a hardcover. We will also have a hardcover edition of the “2006 Full Color Dave Johnson Sketchbook.” We’ll be showcasing a show exclusive cover for “The Savage Brothers” #1 to coincide with the game.

Also, we’re going to have a show exclusive original comic book featuring the biggest name in tabletop miniatures gaming. Not an alternate cover, not a special variant. This is an entire original story, it’ll only be $5 at the booth.

If you’ve missed “Talent,” “Tag”, or “X Isle,” we’ll have second prints of these books available as well.

Will there be any signings, raffles, or other events at the booth that fans should aim to schedule into their plans?

[Note: this question was answered by Boom!’s Gianluca Glanzer]

We will have a lot of signings going on. For Yoshitaka Amano’s “Hero,” we have a special SDCC exclusive cover that is only available for purchase when Amano is signing. Amano’s signing schedule is

Yoshitaka Amano

Wed: 8:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M.

Thursday: 3:00 – 4:00 P.M.

Friday: 2:00 – 3:00 P.M.

Saturday: 2:00 – 3:00 P.M.

Sunday: 2:00 – 3:00 P.M.

Gist (“Tag” #1 cover), JP Leon, Trevor Goring and Tommy Lee Edwards(theBLVD), Rafael Albuquerque (“Savage Brothers,” “Jeremiah Harm” #4), Joe Abraham (“Hero Squared”), Andrew Cosby (“X Isle,” “The Savage Brothers”), Johanna Stokes(“The Savage Brothers”) and Michael Alan Nelson (“Second Wave: War of the Worlds” and “X Isle”).

Finally, is there anything else you want to share with fans about your booth and plans for Comic-Con International?

We’re very excited to appear at the show, as this is a banner time for the company. A month ago, we optioned “Talent” to Universal Pictures with Marc Platt attached to produce, and last Friday just sold the same studio and the same producer TAG. So it’s an exciting time for our company!

We’re debuting a high profile new license at the show, and also showcasing the biggest creator in Japanese comics, and one of the biggest names in comics in all the world! It’s a real coup to publish this project.

With the debut of the “Savage Brothers” video game, as well as all these other projects, BOOM! has really boomed in the past eight weeks. We’re excited, with the company making inroads in film, interactive, and international publishing projects. As all of this expansion occurs, we’re going to be working hard here to keep doing strong comics, great material, on a reliable, dependable basis.

Ludovico Technique

Writer Geoffrey Thorne wrote into CBR News to alert fans to the plans of Ludovico Technique, the company best known for Ben Raab’s “Living In Infamy.” He sent us the following, along with a preview of “The Red Line”:

Who is your company and what do you do, publish, etc?

The company is Ludovico Technique publisher of the critically acclaimed “Living In Infamy” by Ben Raab, Deric Hughes, Greg Kirkpatrick and John Lucas.

“The Red Line” is written by me, Geoffrey Thorne (“Star Trek: Voyager: Distant Shores,” “Deep Space Nine: Prophecy & Change,” and the upcoming “Star Trek: Titan: Sword of Damocles” from Pocket Books) All the art was done by Todd Harris (concept artist on “God of War II” among many other games and movies). The lettering was done by the amazing Richard Starkings and the folks at Comicraft

Where can we find your booth at the convention? Any big flashing lights, signs or anything else we should keep our eyes open for?

Ludovico Technique will be sharing Boothspace with ANTARCTIC PRESS (#2307). No idea how the space will be divied or if the L-Technique logo will be displayed. Publicity is a mystery to me. I can barely tie my shoes.

What do you have for sale or distribution at the booth? Any convention exclusives?

We will be selling a limited convention exclusive edition of the first issue for the special convention price of $1.00. That’s 24 full-color pages, baby.

I don’t believe we’ll be raffling anything but the artist, Todd Harris will be on hand at various times throughout all four days, doing sketches, chatting and signing copies. As will I.

I will also be part of the “Breaking Into Scifi Writing” panel on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 in room 1B.

Visionary Comics Studio

Last but not least, we’ve got C. Edward Sellner, Creative Director of Visionary Comics Studio, who told CBR about the company’s plans for Comic-Con International.

Who is your company and what do you do, publish, etc?

Visionary Comics Studio, we’re actually a packaging studio, not a publisher, but we will have our 2006 Previews Convention Special which will feature four of our properties in development. We’re also kicking off our contest for creators whose grand prize winners will be published in backup stories in various Markosia titles.

Where can we find your booth at the convention? Any big flashing lights, signs or anything else we should keep our eyes open for?

F8 and we’ll have up our full backdrop banner with our Previews Cover featured.

What do you have for sale or distribution at the booth? Any convention exclusives?

Yes, tons. As mentioned we’ll have our Preview Special, we’ll also have 7 full color featured prints of covers of upcoming books like Headlocked, Offpsring, Project HERO, Savage World, SoulStar, and Monarch of Manhattan. In addition we’ll have copies of the DVD to the hit indy film Livelihood, that we’re adapting into comics and an exclusive print for Livelihood, featuring the world’s first pin-up zombie!

Will there be any signings, raffles, or other events at the booth that fans should aim to schedule into their plans?

We’re kicking off our Be a Visionary contest, where creators submit individually to be considered for 6-page short stories, first round qualifiers will be teamed up, and then the second round grand prize winners will have their work published! We’ll be doing portfolio reviews throughout.

We also hope to have a couple surprise signings at the booth. But we will be featuring a number of our new talent.

As for the portfolio reviews, keep in mind, Visionary is all about working with new creators, so, we will be looking to bring some folks into the studio to help them hone their skills and move out into the comics world.

Finally, is there anything else you want to share with fans about your booth and plans for Comic-Con International?

We’re going to be looking forward to greeting our fans and making our actual public debut. This is our first official San Diego Con! So, we’re excited. Thanks for taking the time to give us this chance!
