"Sin City" star Powers Boothe has joined "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." as Gideon Malick, who Marvel.com describes as "a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery."

"Gideon is incredibly menacing and in him we have a character that even the stone-cold Grant Ward would fear," explained Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television. "Only someone of Powers' caliber could deliver the type of ominous and powerful performance we needed."

Boothe also appeared in "The Avengers" as a member of the World Security Council. It is unclear if he will play the same character in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." CBR has reached out for comment.

Starring Chloe Bennet, Clark Gregg and Ming-Na Wen, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." airs Tuesdays at 9 pm EST on ABC.
