The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #22, available now from BOOM! Studios.

In spite of monstrous opposition and overwhelming odds at every single turn, the Power Rangers have somehow always miraculously prevailed. Unfortunately for the Omega Rangers, their latest enemy has just brought to light the stark reality that just because they've won doesn't mean they have also accomplished anything. In fact, as far as the Death Ranger can tell, everything the Omegas have ever done only pushed the universe even further towards the brink of destruction, and they might actually be right.

Power Rangers #22 (by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Sharon Marino, Sara Antonellini, and Ed Dukeshire) finds the Death Ranger finally giving its modern day counterparts a taste of what they are truly capable of. Shortly after introducing themselves in the form of the recently resurrected Zhane, the Silver Space Ranger, the Death Ranger takes the lives of both Jason and Yale. This does not just provide the Death Ranger with two superpowered additions to their undead army. In fact, it provides a personal connection to the other Omegas which they don't hesitate exploiting to the fullest.

When finally face-to-face with the other Omegas, the Death Ranger can't help but point out all their shortcomings as heroes, not to mention their transgressions. The Death Ranger reveals to Trini that they have watched the heroes falter at nearly step along the way. Not only were the Omegas ultimately responsible for the creation of the supervillainous Empowered, yet they were incapable of stopping the Empyreals from laying waste to vast swathes of the universe. To top it all off, the Omega Rangers were the ones who freed Lord Drakkon against Zordon's wishes, just as they were the ones who couldn't keep him from escaping with a new army of his own.

As far as the Death Ranger is concerned, the current roster of Omegas are a stain on everything their mantles are supposed to stand for. Of course, everything the Death Ranger has accused them of is objectively true, yet none of it is anything that the team needs to feel remorse or need absolution for. Creating the Empowered was a result of Kiya's betrayal of the rest of the team, and the Empyreals were literally gods unto themselves. Even the worst of the Death Ranger's claims, that it was the Omegas who let Drakkon loose upon the universe, falls flat under further inspection. This isn't to say that the Omegas didn't steal him away from Zordon's prison, but that they weren't responsible for him escaping after the Eltarian invasion of Earth had been thwarted.

If anything, the Omegas have done their absolute best to hold themselves accountable at every opportunity. Considering how much the team has already uncovered about the legacy of the Power Rangers throughout the universe and the reputation they have because of it, Trini, Zack, and Jason have managed to do better than their relative stations might imply. While there isn't any doubt that some of their decisions have been more than questionable, the Omegas have also been honest about all of their own missteps, not just with one another, but with themselves.

Compared to the reputation the Omega Rangers have worked so hard to escape, it's easy enough to say that they are far from the ineffective, overtly destructive vigilantes that the Death Ranger has made them out to be. Even stacking them up against the Death Ranger's own campaign of terror, the Omegas are objectively better than anything their ancient Gold counterpart has to offer. With any luck, Trini and Zack will survive long enough to realize that for themselves.
