The Power Rangers are going all the way back to the beginning in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #20, which will introduce the first crew to ever don the color-coordinated superhero suits and fight for galactic justice. While the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television show introduced the world to the team of Billy, Jason, Kimberly, Trini and Zack in the ‘90s, the rangers’ true origins will bring readers all the way back to 1969.

"Any opportunity to add to the Power Ranger mythos is always an incredible honor and one of the fundamental reasons I love writing this book,” Higgins said in a press release. “Case in point, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #20 is going to take us back in time to explore a very different—yet familiar—team of Rangers: the ones that stopped a secret Moon attack during the 1960s. Who were the Power Rangers of 1969? What happened to them? And how do they fit into our current story? We're jumping into the Wayback Machine to the Summer of Love to meet a new cast of Rangers, some of whom will have a huge impact on the future of the Mighty Morphin team!"

The announcement that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be hopping back to 1969 also came with the reveal of three variant covers. The covers include a boxed Trini Kwan action figure in casual clothes, Rita Repulsa lording over the Moon and the Black Ranger jumping into battle with his ax.
