The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #22, available now from BOOM! Studios.

Despite the colorful cast of characters set against the backdrop of high-flying adventures, few if any Power Rangers are a stranger to great tragedy. This is especially true for the Red Space Ranger Andros, whose entire life has been shaped by one devastating loss after another. After decades of clinging on to whatever hope he had left just for it to be ripped away, Andros finally found a way to fight back against the whims of fate. Unfortunately, bringing Zhane back to life hasn't gone the way Andros had hoped. Not only is the resurrected Silver Ranger a monster the likes of which the heroes have never seen before, but Andros is finally coming to that realization far too late to do anything about it.

After successfully bringing Zhane back to life, Andros has led him aboard the Astro Megaship to continue in their quest for justice. As seen in the pages of Power Rangers #22 (by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Sharon Marino, Sara Antonellini, and Ed Dukeshire), however, what they call "justice" is nothing more than genocidal vengeance at the absolute least. Of course, that's only because the Zhane who Andros brought back isn't actually his long-lost friend at all, but rather an unliving vessel for the ancient Death Ranger. Even once the Death Ranger has moved on to a new host, the Zhane that has returned is still just another superpowered minion in a Silver Ranger suit. Witnessing Andros come to this realization is already heartbreaking, but the fact that it has taken him so long to do so is even worse.

Since childhood, Andros and Zhane were as close as could be. When Dark Specter's invasion of their world left Andros orphaned alongside Zhane, they were both taken in by the Space Rangers. Though Andros' more pessimistic view of the Power Rangers would seemingly drive a wedge between them, he eventually came to realize that all of his problems with them were merely his own issues going unaddressed. With Zhane's encouragement, Andros took up the mantle of the Red Ranger alongside him, yet that wouldn't be enough to keep either of them safe for long.

A deadly confrontation with Dark Specter's forces would see almost all the Space Rangers killed in gruesome fashion, save for Andros and Zhane. Unlike their small screen counterparts, Andros couldn't rescue Zhane from his life-threatening wounds. Instead, Andros only managed to turn Zhane into the Death Ranger's most powerful weapon. In spite of everything Andros already knew, he still chose to risk everything for Zhane's sake, which on some levels could be commendable. In fact, going to such extreme lengths for a loved one could have even been the one thing that ultimately redeemed Andros, yet all it has done is make both him and Zhane into the universe's latest mass murderers.

By the time Andros can see what he has actually unleashed, he has already helped the Death Ranger kill thousands of Xurix in a shocking act of interstellar genocide. Andros even stood by while "Zhane" murdered two of their fellow Rangers for daring to get in the way of his plans. It is only when confronted with his own people having been brought back as the Death Ranger's grotesque army that Andros can bring himself to try and make things right, and at that point there is nothing to do but run as the carnage unfolds.

Andros hasn't just set an ancient evil free upon the universe, nor has he merely been led blindly towards destruction by his own anguish. Beyond any other harm Andros could have done, he has let Zhane's legacy be irreparably tainted for all time. The Gold Omega Ranger was already a relic of the past which had been relegated to a thing of myth because of how the Death Ranger defiled their former mantle. Even the Blue Omega Ranger only returned thanks to the intervention of an Emissary, while the Green Ranger had to be brought back in secret by Grace Sterling. Considering everything "Zhane" has accomplished in such a short time, it's hard to imagine the Silver Space Ranger won't be the next mantle to be purposefully forgotten.
