Platinum Studios, the publisher behind Cowboys & Aliens, has announced it's developing its 2007 miniseries The Weapon for the big screen. CEO Scott Rosenberg will serve as producer.

Written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Scott Koblish, The Weapon centers on martial-arts enthusiast Tommy Zhou, who discovers a way to create solid objects from light, and then creates a superhero persona to promote it. However, his inventions make him the target of an ancient cult that's convinced Zhou has unlocked the mystical techniques of the Order of Wu-Shi -- "the Way of the Weapon."

"We believe The Weapon will be an attractive project for both international film financers and Hollywood producers," Rosenberg said in a statement. "This property is one of those with enormous franchise potential."
