Though he's been largely absent from the DC Universe since the dawn of the New 52, Plastic Man recently returned in a big way via the briefest of appearances in the pages of Dark Days: The Forge. Not only did Eel O'Brien not utter a word, he wasn't even in human form; rather, the criminal-turned-hero's sole role in the Dark Nights: Metal prelude was in the form of a gigantic egg wrapped in the characters unmistakable red, black and yellow costume.

As unmistakable as it may be, it appears that the pliable hero's iconic look will be getting a makeover when he finally makes his presence felt in DC's Rebirth reality. The classic character's fresh look was unveiled as part of the artwork emblazoned on DC Comics' booth at Comic-Con International, offering convention attendees in San Diego a good look at his new appearance.

To be fair, aside from the less flashy color scheme, the costume isn't that drastic a departure from the one fans know and love. Plus, judging from the art alone, it would appear this is more of a team look for Plas rather than a complete overhaul of the character; the color scheme perfectly matches Mr. Terrific, who is also present in the art, along with Metamorpho and an as-yet unidentified female character, also dressed in black, white and red. Could we be seeing a new incarnation of the Outsiders with Mr. Terrific as their leader and Plastic Man as a member?

Whatever the case, it would appear that Jack Cole's most famous creation will have a solid role in the DCU as Metal unfolds and Rebirth continues to be untangled in the months ahead.
