Disney debuted the first look at “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” tonight during the season finale of “Fear the Walking Dead.”
The fifth installment of the blockbuster fantasy-adventure franchise, the film sees Johnny Depp reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, joined by series veterans Geoffrey Rush as Hector Barbossa, Kevin McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner.
However, Jack Sparrow is nowhere to be seen in the footage. Instead, we’re introduced to his old foe Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, and the captive Henry (Brenton Thwaites).
In “Dead Men Tell No Tales, Jack Sparrow his pursued by old rival Captain Salazar, who has escaped from the Devil’s Triangle with his ghost crew, and is now determined to kill every pirate at sea. To defeat him, Jack must seek the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that grants whoever possesses it total control of the sea.
Directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg from a script by Jeff Nathanson, the film also stars Kaya Scodelario, Stephen Graham and, yes, Paul McCartney.
Earning a combined $3.7 billion worldwide, the franchise debuted in 2003 with “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl,” followed in 2006 by “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” in 2007 by “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” and in 2011 with “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” arrives May 26, 2017.
