Yes, Virginia, there will be a sequel to this summer's Piranha 3 - and it'll be made by a team very familiar to both horror aficionados and reality TV show fans. Gimmicky or good business sense? You be the judge.

Deadline has the scoop that Dimension Films have signed up director John Gulager and Saw franchise writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to come up with the sequel, now called Piranha 3DD (Yes, really. Yes, I'm sorry, too). If that team sounds familiar to you, it's because it's a combination behind Feast, the final project from reality TV show Project Greenlight. After getting their start in that show, the threesome have stayed in horror - Gulager's stayed with the Feast franchise, directing two sequels, while Melton and Dunstan (who wrote the Feast follow-ups) have taken over the Saw movies, writing the last four installments. Whether this choice of creative team comes from a desire to keep costs down after the first movie made director Alexandre Aja's name, or a desire to make the franchise less-satire and more-horror remains to be seen. I'm hoping it's just the former.
