Fans haven't stopped wondering which actor would step in to play the iconic, time-travelling mutant known as Cable ever since Wade Wilson cheekily announced he'd be joining the cast of "Deadpool 2" back during the first film's post-credits stinger. A host of names have since been offered as potential candidates for the role, ranging from A-listers like Brad Pitt (since debunked) to the non-conventional choice found in "Stranger Things" alum David Harbour. Last night, one past contender revealed that, unfortunately, he's not preparing to saddle up alongside the Merc with the Mouth.

"[It's] not true. Nothing's come my way yet...I don’t lie," Pierce Brosnan admitted while on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." "They know where to find me, it’s just fabricated."

That last bit seems to point towards Brosnan's willingness to join the cast, however, since no one apparently has approached him yet, the chances for that seem slim. The former 007 also took a moment to explain away how the rumor all got started, which involved a photo featuring him, Hugh Jackman, and Ryan Reynolds.

"We were sitting, waiting for a plane, the three of us, and the guy said, ‘Quick, let’s get a photograph,’ and [I] jump in the middle and Mr. Reynolds said, ‘Let’s do Three Wise Monkeys.’ [We] put it out there and it went viral."

A pretty innocent reason, much to the disappointment of a lot of people out there. Casting is still underway for Cable, but seeing as how the film is still on track for a 2018 release, a name will hopefully be revealed in the very near future.
