The final season of Picard will see the return of several major Star Trek: The Next Generation actors.

Announced to celebrate First Contact Day, Paramount+ revealed that the final season of Picard will see LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner reprise their roles from The Next Generation. The announcement was accompanied by a brief trailer featuring various voiceovers from the classic cast as they narrate Patrick Stewart's titular character preparing for what seems to be a major adventure. How these returning characters will factor into the narrative of Picard Season 3 is currently unknown.

"I remember watching the premiere of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction," said Season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas "So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire [Picard] team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!"

Stewart recently teased that when the beloved Star Trek spinoff comes to an end, fans may be left wanting more from Picard. "Followers of Picard will find that we get to the very end of Season 3, and the resolution is unexpected and questionable," explained Stewart. "And I'm thrilled about that because it leaves a question mark hanging over his head."

Stewart later clarified that even though the series will seemingly end with unanswered questions, that doesn't necessarily mean Picard will return for a fourth season. "Now, I'm not saying in three years' time or 10 years' time, there will be another series and I'll be back again tending in my grapes in the vineyard," Stewart continued. "But I've had some fallings out with some of our people, because they look on this as a closure that is coming up, and I don't."

Created by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, Kirsten Beyer and Alex Kurtzman, fans of Picard can catch new episodes on Paramount+ every Thursday. Season 3 does not yet have a release date.
