Deadline reports that, according to multiple unnamed sources, Peter Berg will take over directing duties on Deepwater Horizon from the departing JC Chandor. The move will reunite Berg with his Lone Survivor star Mark Wahlberg.

The director joins the project following Chandor's sudden departure from the Summit Entertainment film, which will follow the true-life events surrounding the 2010 BP oil spill. The speedy replacement is said to have been done in order to keep the film on schedule to begin production in April.

The incoming director previously teamed with Deepwater screenwriter Matthew Michael Carnahan for 2007's The Kingdom. So far Wahlberg is the only actor attached to the project. Deepwater Horizon is set for release Sept. 30, 2016.
