Even as the sequel The Raid 2: Berandal arrives in theaters later this month, the Hollywood remake machine remains intent on giving the 2011 Indonesian original a spin of its own.

Deadline confirms that The Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes has been hired to remake The Raid for Screen Gems. He'll direct from a script by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace). Original Raid director Gareth Evans is involved as a producer, with his original fight choreography team on board as well. That's a promising sign, at least.

The Raid focuses on an Indonesian elite police squad that infiltrates a crime-filled tenement to apprehend a ruthless drug lord. But when the drug lord finds out about the mission, he commands all of the tenement's residents to find and kill the police officers — leading to one of the most violent showdowns ever captured on film.

If you haven't seen The Raid and you're an action-movie junkie, you owe it to yourself to check it out. The sequel, Berandal, drops on March 28.
