Dwayne Johnson announced late Thursday that Pamela Anderson has joined the cast of Paramount's "Baywatch" movie.

"She introduced the world to 'CJ Parker' and became one of the most iconic characters of a generation -- for the most successful TV show of all time," Johnson wrote on Instagram, where he shared a photo of himself with Anderson. "A pleasure to welcome (as gorgeous as ever) Pamela Anderson to our #BAYWATCH cast. We couldn't have made this movie without you. Welcome home. Thrilled you had a blast with us!"

Anderson co-starred as Casey Jean "C.J." Parker in five seasons of the long-running television series. She reprised that role for the 2003 made-for-TV movie "Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding." Last fall, the actress seemed to scoff at the idea of a big-screen "Baywatch," saying, "No one appreciates the remakes." TMZ reported at the time that Anderson hadn't been asked to participate in the movie.

Anderson joins a cast that also includes Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Priyanka Chopra, Hannibal Buress, Belinda Peregrín, Izabel Goulart, Charlotte McKinney and David Hasselhoff.

Directed by Seth Gordon, “Baywatch” centers on the by-the-book leader of an elite team of lifeguards (Johnson) who’s forced to team with a rule-breaking hotshot (Efron) to save the bay from an oil tycoon (Chopra).  The film opens May 19, 2017.
