If you were worried that Marvel Comics upcoming Generations one-shots would feature stories that had no effect on the Marvel Universe, Greg Pak has some good news for you.

The Totally Awesome Hulk writer assures readers that his Generations one-shot, which features current jade giant Amadeus Cho coming face to face with his currently deceased mentor and original Hulk Bruce Banner, features a story that will leave its mark on the new hero. Whether Banner remains a player in the Marvel U post-Generations remains to be seen, of course, but Pak assures readers that whatever the outcome on that front, Generations: Banner Hulk & The Totally Awesome Hulk "will matter."

"The biggest action means nothing if it's not invested with emotion," Pak promised in an interview with Previews World. "So the first challenge in making a story like this matter is figuring out what's the emotional hook — what's really going on between these characters and how are they going to be changed through this monumental conflict? Then every Hulktastic smash has consequence — it all matters. And yes, this story will matter."

"And then, of course, you give your artists awesome stuff to smash and back up while they go wild," Pak added, assuring fans that the one-shot won't be a 20-page talking heads story. "Matteo Buffagni is drawing the book, and you know he's gonna tear it to pieces."

When the series of one-shots was initially announced, Marvel Comics’ editor-in-chief Axel Alonso seemed adamant in his assertion that Generations “isn’t some alternate reality story or some time-travel story.” However, the subsequently-released solicitation copy for several of the one-shots makes no bones about time-travel playing a major part in how the encounters — even those featuring two currently living characters — occur. At this point, it's unknown whether Banner's return to the realm of the living will involve time-travel, magic or perhaps even the machination of Kobik, the living incarnation of the Cosmic Cube at the center of Secret Empire's unfolding story, has not yet been revealed.

Check out some of Buffagni's art from the one-shot below along with the issue's full solicitation description, and check back with CBR soon for more news about Generations.
