Although Hasbro and Universal Pictures' Ouija film has been silent for a while, the project has sprung back to life with some key casting news.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) and Douglas Smith (Big Love, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) will star in the film about a group of teenagers using the iconic supernatural game board to communicate with their dead friend. As these things tend to go, the kids break the board out and unleash something evil.

As announced in July 2012, Stiles White is set to direct a script he co-wrote with Juliet Snowden. This will be White's first turn as a director, though he has worked in special effects on films like The Sixth Sense and Jurassic Park III.

The Universal film is a joint venture between two juggernauts of the horror game these days, Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes remake machine and Jason Blum's microbudget hit makers Blumhouse. Ouija currently does not have a set release date, but will most likely hit in 2014.
