Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse Aims for Simple Yet Profound Mission in “X-Men: Apocalypse”

“X-Men: Apocalypse” star Oscar Isaac, who will appear in the film as the titular villain, offered a few details about his character on the Monkeys Fighting Robots podcast.

“I’ve been reading the script a lot and trying to come at for me, a interesting angle. Definitely focusing on the fact he is the embodiment of the second coming of the judgements of god and that energy going in,” he explained. In the comics, the character — who draws his name from the Biblical end times — is nigh immortal and even commands his own four Horsemen.

“What we are trying to do is make his philosophy and what his mission is, one that is both simple but also holds water, that really makes sense throughout the whole movie,” he added. “I think Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer, we’ve been able to come up with something very cool.”

A young version of Apocalypse was introduced in the post-credits scene of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” pointing directly toward the sequel. The movie version of Apocalypse will reportedly be similar to his comic book counterpart as a mutant thousands of years old.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” is scheduled to open on May 27, 2016.
