A new report from Deadline states that Roberto Orci is no longer directing Star Trek 3. He will stay on as a producer.

Orci took over directing the third Star Trek film following the departure of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams. His latest project is spearheading a cinematic universe for Universal's classic monster properties, including remakes for The Mummy, The Wolf Man and Van Helsing. Star Trek 3 would have been his first turn behind the camera as director, though his credits as producer and writer are vast, covering everything from TV's Scorpion to Michael Bay's Transformers.

Deadline reports that a short list of directors includes "Edgar Wright and others" as options to step in to head up the third film in the modern Star Trek film franchise.

Star Trek 3 is slated for a 2016 release.
