Although AMC has had great success in the worlds of drama and horror, the cable network is looking to branch out into a new direction: science fiction. To that end, it's developing a futuristic police drama from Pacific Rim writer Travis Beacham and Oblivion writer/director Joseph Kosinski.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ballistic City centers on a former cop who's thrust into the criminal underworld of a city housed in a generational spaceship destined for an unknown world. The concept is described as "a blend of Chinatown and Blade Runner."

Beacham developed the series and is writing the pilot script for Kosinksi to direct. Beacham and Kosinski will serve as producers on the project, should it be picked up to series. Kosinksi's Oblivion opens Friday, while Beacham's Pacific Rim (directed by Guillermo del Toro) arrives July 12.
