The latest Star Wars: Episode VII rumor comes courtesy of Latino Review, which cites "three close sources" as saying Ewan McGregor will return to the franchise as the Force ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi. According to the article, McGregor's representatives have not responded to a request for comment.

Yes, if true, that does seem to create a bit of an awkward situation, given that the Obi-Wan ghost in the classic trilogy -- which takes place before the new film, chronologically -- was played by Alec Guinness, in his 60s at the time, and McGregor is 42. Latino Review suggests that, given that Hayden Christensen was edited into the end of Return of the Jedi as Anakin's Force ghost for the 2004 DVD release, there's something of a precedent -- or, it could be as simple as makeup artificially aging McGregor to the appropriate point.

As always, it's important to remember this is an unconfirmed report based on anonymous sources, and no official cast announcements have been made. It does appear that McGregor is at least open to returning to the role, however, as he told Digital Spy in December that he'd be happy to be in the new Star Wars films if they needed him.

Star Wars: Episode VII, the first film in the franchise since Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, is scheduled for release in summer 2015.
