This past weekend at New York Comic Con, Capcom unleashed a lot of news regarding “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3,” including even more new characters, a battle with Galactus and a few other surprises. CBR News sums it all up for you, with videos and a screencap library!
Say Hello To Phoenix Wright and Nova
First and foremost, two new fighters have joined the growing cast of characters for the game. On the Capcom side is Phoenix Wright, an attorney who’s appeared in a number of self-titled games on the Nintendo DS, as well as on the Wii and iOS platforms. His fighting techniques are actually intertwined with his legal skills, as he’ll shuffle papers and fire defensive laser beams at his opponents while occasionally calling upon his secretary for one super attack and a huge judge’s gavel for the other. But the real kicker is his ultimate attack, in which he obliterates his opponent with a full blown…accusation.
Meanwhile, on the Marvel side, we have Nova, a young teen whose real name is Richard Rider. He’s been a part of the comic book universe for 35 years now, and his powers haven’t dwindled, as we can see from his moves in the trailer. He uses all the powers of the Nova Corps, a team he was enlisted with to help defend the galaxy. Unfortunately, an Annihilation Wave wiped them out, leaving him fighting with all of their combined powers. He’s got several charged attacks to his credit, as well as the kind of super moves that do serious damage to his foes.
Galactus Joins the Party
In other news, Galactus, the planet-eating monster who appeared as the nearly-unstoppable final boss in the original “Marvel vs. Capcom 3,” has been confirmed as a playable character in the game. However, you won’t be able to choose him for routine battles. Instead, according to Capcom, you’ll control him as he takes on waves of enemies that come at him in groups of threes. The challenge is to get through as many groups as you possibly can before he’s eventually put down. Hopefully this mode will be supported with online leaderboards in one form or another. How long do you think you’ll last? We don;t know, but check out the New York Comic Con video Capcom released to promote the game specifically for NYCC attendees!
Free Post-Release Downloadable Content and Heroes and Heralds
Though Capcom hasn’t gone into detail as of yet in regard to what it will entail, it will be supporting “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3” with free downloadable content once it’s released. This could be anything, from new characters to alternative uniform colors to “virtual opponents”, where a fighter’s style is copied and inputted into the game as a downloadable challenge. (“Marvel vs. Capcom 3” received these previously.)
In addition, the company is adding a new Heroes and Heralds mode. On one side you have the familiar Marvel and Capcom heroes, and on the other is Galactus and his crew. To battle them, you’ll actually shift through a new ability card system, where you can unlock additional moves to help you in each fight. These include invisibility, additional combos, being able to launch projectiles without deflection and so much more. Check out the video below!
“Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3” hits Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 15.
