Hours after it leaked online, but still hours before it was originally set to debut, Lionsgate has officially released the first trailer for "Power Rangers."

As you might expect from a teaser, the footage is heavy on setup, introducing the five Angel Grove teenagers who stumble upon an otherworldly mystery that not only changes their lives -- "Something happened out there, OK? I'm not the same -- but also endangers them. That latter aspect is embodied by Elizabeth Banks' Rita Repulsa, whose brief appearance is far more menacing than anything remembered from the classic TV series.

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

“Power Rangers” stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart (Pink Ranger), Becky G as Trini Kwan (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor (Black Ranger), Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, and Bill Hader as Alpha 5. The cast also includes David Denman, Sarah Grey, Anjali Jay, Patrick Sabongui, Lisa Berry and Emily Maddison.

The “Power Rangers” panel is set for today at 2 p.m. at New York Comic Con. The film arrives March 24, 2017.
