Today the New York Comic Con picked up Thor's hammer and hit the economy square in the face, as they announced that Saturday and weekend passes are sold out. Publishers were there in droves today ready to spill their secrets, and some of the announcements made at the con today include:

• Marvel announced several new X-Men-related titles, including an odd one called X-Men Forever. It reunites Chris Claremont with the X-Men, and in fact picks up right after X-Men #3, the last issue he created with Jim Lee. That marked the end of his 16-year run on the characters. The new title will be bi-weekly. If you have any questions about the book, ComicMix is accepting them for an interview with the writer.

• Marvel also announced the return of the New Mutants by writer Zeb Wells and artist Diogenes Neves. "The New Mutants are the only group of youths aside from the X-Men who have 'graduated' Professor Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters," Wells said. "For all intents and purposes they are the next X-Men, just as Xavier intended. That’s my mission statement for the series, to show what if means to graduate Xavier’s."

• After Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch finish their run, Jonathan Hickman and Dale Eaglesham will take over the book. Eaglesham is also now a Marvel exclusive.

• The Vertigo panel brought several announcements from the publisher, including a $1 initiative that'll see several new and existing titles being offered for buck. "We're trying to get as many people to read our monthlies," Berger said. "We know a lot of people will just wait for the trade, and that's great, but it will help us a lot if people buy the monthlies too."

Single issues that'll be priced at $1 include The Unwritten, a new book by Mike Carey and Peter Gross that's due in May; Air #7; and Greek Street #1, a new creator-owned book by Peter Milligan.

• Vertigo also announced several new graphic novels -- Gone To Amerikay by Derek McCulloch and Colleen Doran, How to Understand Israel in Sixty Days or Less by Sarah Glidden, Cuba: One Story by Inverna Valesquez and Dean Haspiel, and Luna Park by Kevin Baker and Danijel Zezelj. They'll also release their first prose novel, Peter and Max by Bill Willingham. It's set in the Fables universe.

• The DC Universe proper only saw a couple of panels today, one of which was mainly Q&A's, but DC's chief Dan DiDio did reveal a new Animal Man series was in the works. DC's biggest announcement seemed to come from the NYCC convention book, which featured a preview of the long-awaited Batwoman story by Greg Rucka and JH Williams, set to run in Detective Comics.

• BOOM! Studios promised to make heads explode at the New York Comic Con. Did they succeed? I guess that's ... Unknown. Ah geez, that was bad. But yes, Mark Waid is writing another title for them, this one a detective book about the world's greatest detective and her new apprentice trying to solve the mystery of death itself.
