The build-up to the oversized Amazing Spider-Man #800 saw the villain Norman Osborn bond with the Carnage symbiote to become the Red Goblin. Issue #800 saw Spider-Man barely defeat the deranged combination of two of his fiercest rivals, but that doesn't mean the Red Goblin is gone for good.

Writers Pat Gleason, Rob Fee and Sean Ryan will collaborate with artist Pete Woods for Red Goblin: Red Death #1. The special one-shot was announced at the Marvel Comics: Retailer Panel Friday at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

At this time it's not made clear if this is a story set in the past, during Norman's reign of madness as the Red Goblin. The Carnage symbiote is currently occupied with its original host, Cletus Kasady, for the upcoming Absolute Carnage Marvel event.

The storyline sees Carnage seek out every character in the Marvel Universe who has bonded with a symbiote, in order to kill them and steal a secret codex left in their bodies.
