Sam Witwicky’s days of hanging with gargantuan alien robots are coming to a close, as Michael Bay’s currently shooting Transformers 3 is set to be the last film in the series for Shia LaBeouf.
“There’s no more for me, at least,” the actor told MTV about his future with the Transformers franchise. “I’m never going to do it again.”
But the actor believes he’s going out on a high note, describing the third Transformers movie as the best one in the series.
“This is, and I’m not just BS-ing you, it’s the best movie we’ve made of the three by far,” said LaBeouf. “This is the last one, so it’s balls-out. This is the best movie we’ve made, period, and that’s a unanimous decision by everybody. The sizzle reel that [Bay] has been showing everybody on set, it’s so outrageous. I’m very, very, very, very proud of it.”
If nothing else, I believe that LaBeouf sincerely believes that this is the best Transformers film; he’s had no problem criticizing his own projects in the past, so while I wouldn’t say there’s no reason to believe the actor — the guy really should hype his own films, after all — he nonetheless has a level of honesty that many in Hollywood don’t have, often to the detriment of his own reputation.
So, yes, I believe that LaBeouf believes that Transformers 3 is the best in the series. As for whether or not it actually is the best, I’ll hold out some judgment until next summer.
And what’s this about Transformers 3 being “the last one” of the series? The last one with LaBeouf and possibly even Bay, perhaps, but certainly not altogether. If you really believe that Paramount will break camp on their biggest tent pole franchise after three films, please drop me a line; I want to know where you’re getting that black market Energon, because it sounds like some seriously powerful stuff.
