No ‘Chronicle 2’ For Max Landis

The Chronicle is over — for Max Landis, at least.

The outspoken screenwriter of the first Chronicle film has revealed that as of now, he’s no longer attached to the developing sequel. According to a series of tweets, Landis parted ways with Chronicle 2 months ago, because “Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series, [and director Josh Trank] was never attached.”

“Ultimately, I’m just very grateful to Fox for making a film as close to my original script as Chronicle was. For making the film at all,” he added. “So yeah it’s sad that as of right now I’m not involved in the sequel, and don’t know what it’s about even, but ultimately I can’t complain. … The truth is, when you’re successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That’s like more than half the job.”

At the end of Chronicle, only one of the three main characters was still standing. It’s difficult to imagine where the series goes from there without its lead creative voice — if it goes anywhere at all.
