Well, this is a bit embarrassing. Yesterday Spinoff and other websites picked up a story from a Spanish newspaper in which Sylvester Stallone was quoted as saying Nicolas Cage has joined The Expendables 3. However, it turns out that apparently isn't the case.

Stallone, the mastermind behind the blockbuster action franchise, spoke to Deadline to clear things up, noting he "has no knowledge of Nic Cage joining Expendables 3." As it turns out, the quotes in the El Pais piece were taken from a 2012 summer press conference in support Expendables 2 and was actually a list of people he wanted to see in the upcoming film. The list also included Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and the return of Mickey Rourke.

Of course, that doesn't mean Cage won't be involved with The Expendables 3; he just hasn't signed on yet. The actor took it easy in 2012 with only one film release, but had five out in 2011 and 13 projects listed for 2013 and beyond on IMDb, including the rumored role in Expendables 3 and his starring role in a Left Behind trilogy. The guy likes to work on a lot of different projects, so don't be surprised if he does wind up working with action's greatest stars in The Expendables 3.
