Following news of planned revivals of some of its classic shows, and rumors of a crossover film, Nickelodeon has begun promoting The Splat, presumed to be a channel devoted to its 1990s animated series.

The cable network hasn't made an official announcement, but all signs point to just that, with a trailer featuring clips from shows like "Ren and Stimpy," "Rugrats," "Angry Beavers," "Catdog" and "Hey Arnold!" There's also a website and an extensive social media presence, all without any firm news, beyond "The Splat is Coming."

Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's president of content and development, revealed less than two weeks ago that the network wants to bring back some of its old, beloved series "a fresh, new way." However, he was referring to revisiting some of the classic concepts as miniseries, specials or TV movies, and offered no hint that Nickelodeon was planning to launch a new channel.
