Despite assurances by the government, the mysterious light witnessed by millions early last month off the California coast may not have been a Naval missile test after all. Or so suggests the new promo for Fox's revival of "The X-Files."

Using actual footage recorded of the light, the TV spot casts doubts on the official explanation, with David Duchovny's Fox Mulder saying in voiceover, "We must ask ourselves, Are we truly alone? Or are we being lied to?”

Duchovny is joined in the six-episode miniseries by fellow “X-Files” veterans Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Annabeth Gish, Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood and Dean Haglund, as well as newcomers like Joel McHale, Kumail Nanjiani and Robbie Amell.

“The X-Files” premieres Jan. 24 on Fox.
