"Twin Peaks" original composer Angelo Badalamenti makes a return in the latest teaser for Showtime's upcoming revival.

The promo features images of a forest and the tragically deceased Laura Palmer superimposed over footage of Badalamenti playing the theme music from the original series.

Badalamenti composed the "Twin Peaks" soundtrack with series co-creator David Lynch, who wrote lyrics for several of the songs. The ethereal opening theme earned Badalamenti a Grammy in 1990. The soundtrack, which ranged from dream pop to jazz numbers, helped to define the multifaceted atmosphere of the series, while alluding an undefinable darkness that was looming just beneath our reality.

Badalamenti's involvement should help to assure longtime fans that the revival will be consistent with the tone of the original, as his work was such a critical part of 1990 cult drama.

Written by Lynch and series co-creator Mark Frost, and directed by Lynch, the revival features a long list of returning cast members, including Kyle MacLachlan, Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, David Duchovny, Mädchen Amick, Harry Dean Stanton and Ray Wise. They're joined by series newcomers like Laura Dern, Michael Cera, Richard Chamberlain, Robert Forster, Ernie Hudson, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eddie Vedder, Amanda Seyfried and Tom Sizemore.

Season Three of "Twin Peaks" will premiere next year on Showtime.
