In a week filled with comic-book television and movie news, from the announcement of a star for “Wonder Woman” and a possible director for “Iron Man 3” to rumblings about “The Dark Knight Rises” and even “Xerxes,” Marvel and Paramount Pictures stealthily rolled out a new theatrical trailer this afternoon for “Thor.”
Clocking in at nearly two and a half minutes, the trailer introduces new footage, casting a spotlight on Natalie Portman, the Academy Award-nominated star of director Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan,” while playing up some of the movie’s lighthearted moments. There’s plenty of action, too, with more shots of the frost giants and the Destroyer.
If that weren’t enough, Yahoo! Movies also unveiled two new stills from “Thor.”
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, “Thor” features a sprawling cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as the god of thunder, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Colm Feore as the king of the Frost Giants, Joshua Dallas as Fandral, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Rene Russo as Frigga and Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson. The movie opens on May 6.
Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, “Thor,” which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
