If the latest Star Trek 3 rumor pans out, Leonard Nimoy might experience a Trek reunion in the rebooted franchise's next installment. Badass Digest has a hunch there's a role for William Shatner, should the veteran actor wish to reprise his most famous role.

Nimoy played a big part in the previous two J.J. Abrams-helmed Trek movies, but classic Kirk has yet to make a return. A proposed Shatner cameo in 2009's Star Trek was cut from the script before filming began, a fact that apparently dashed the actor's desire to don a Starfleet uniform one more time.

If the rumor is true, however, Shatner's a shoo-in for "Trek 3." Badass Digest calls this cameo "plot-driven" and "integral," implying that it will be hard to remove from the current script barring a major overhaul. The website also notes that this cameo would reteam the original Kirk and Spock for the first time in canon since 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

According to new-Spock Zachary Quinto's recent appearance on Today, Star Trek 3 may begin filming within the next six months. The sequel hits theaters in 2016.
