“Rings,” the direct sequel to Gore Verbinski’s seminal 2004 remake of “Ringu,” has been in the works for a while now. First announced for a November 2015 release, the new film was moved back to April of last year and then bumped to October. Not long after, Paramount Pictures dropped a teaser trailer citing the October 2016 release, the new entry for the videotape-from-Hell series was suddenly and inexplicably pushed back yet again to 2017. Not much has been heard about the film since then, but a new poster released today assures us that Samara is indeed coming back, and that it’s pretty easy to catch up on the supernatural series’ lore.
“First you watch it. Then you die” — two rules that should be simple to remember. It’s also pretty easy to remember when “Rings” will finally hit theaters: February 3, just a month from today.
Directed by Javier Gutierrez and starring Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe and Vincent D’Onofrio, “Rings” is the third entry in the horror series set 13 years after the events of the previous films.
