As promised by director Josh Boone on Instagram, the first teaser trailer for Fox's distinctly horror-centric upcoming X-Men spinoff film The New Mutants arrived online just after midnight Pacific time on Friday, set partially to the sounds of "Another Brick In The Wall."
On Twitter, the teaser was paired with the tagline, "Everyone Has Demons."
The New Mutants is based on the Marvel Comics of the same name, which was the first -- of many -- comic book spinoffs of the X-Men franchise. The original comic book team was introduced in 1982's Marvel Graphic Novel #4 by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, and starred Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Karma and Mirage.

In 1991, the New Mutants comic book evolved into a new series called X-Force, which is also in the works as a Fox film, written and directed by Drew Goddard. New Mutants has been in development in one form or another since shortly after Boone completed work on 2014's The Fault in Our Stars, and filmed this past summer. Boone surprised fans a few months back by stating that rather than a superhero movie, New Mutants is "a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe." (Which likely motivated the Friday the 13th release date for this teaser.) Based on this first teaser, Boone wasn't exaggerating when it came to the horror elements.
