Eisner Award-winning writer Greg Rucka (“Gotham Central,” “The Old Guard”) will return to the world of “Lazarus” with a six-issue miniseries titled “Lazarus: X+66” alongside a slew of talented artists.
Teaming with designer/writer Eric Trautman on script duties, alongside Aaron Duran and Neal Bailey, “Lazarus: X+66” will focus on some of the lesser-explored corners of the world incepted by Rucka and co-creator Michael Lark. The first issue, which will be drawn by Steve Lieber (“The Fix,” “Superior Foes of Spider-Man”), will focus on Casey Solomon and her fight to survive the rigors of Dagger training. According to the synopsis from Image Comics, “Ever since she caught the eye of the Lazarus, Casey has learned that gaining the Family’s attention can be as much of a curse as a blessing. Will Dagger Selection destroy Casey, or will survival mean something worse?”
Subsequent issues will feature a rotating team of artists, including Mack Chater, Justin Greenwood, Alitha Martinez, Bilquis Evely, and Tristan Jone. Lark will provide covers for each issue. The miniseries will set the stage for the sixth story arc of “Lazarus,” when the main series makes its return.
In the press release announcing “Lazarus: X+66,” Rucka had this to say:
“Part of the joy of writing LAZARUS for me is exploring and defining different aspects of the world, and in particular the characters who inhabit it…Following the events of Cull, and gearing up for the inevitable trauma that will be Fracture, this was the ideal time and place to look into some of the corners of our universe that had been, for one reason or another, neglected, while at the same time buttressing and expanding on the overall ‘main story’ that Michael and I are telling. Every one of these stories is important in the larger narrative, and getting to provide a laser focus on them is simply something that we can’t do in the confines of the pages of the monthly.”
“Lazarus: X+66” #1 is due to arrive on July 19.
