Way before Greg Weisman was the fan-favourite producer behind the "Gargoyles," "Spectacular Spider-Man" and "Star Wars: Rebels" animated series, he and Cary Bates were the writers responsible for the popular 80s DC revamp of the Charlton Comics hero (and template for "Watchmen's" Doctor Manhattan) Captain Atom.

Now the pair are set to return to the atomic character in a six-issue miniseries entitled "The Fall and Rise of Captain Atom." The title also boasts the talents of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" Will Conrad on art duties.

Judging from the information about the series released by DC so far, the title might see several elements of the character's "New-52" incarnation walked back as "Captain Atom hasn’t been seen or heard from in years — and even if you think you know what happened to him… you’re wrong!"

DC's press release also promises "a saga that transcends not only the meaning of life and death, but the limits of time and space."

Written by Cary Bates and Greg Weisman and drawn by Will Conrad, "The Fall and Rise of Captain Atom" #1 is scheduled for release on January 4, 2017.
