"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is about to get an even bigger villain than Doomsday and Lex Luthor combined.

A new image from Empire Magazine's latest print issue reveals Batman looking out over a field with an imprint of the Omega symbol, Darkseid's insignia. The new still also seems to show a smoldering, destroyed city just beyond on the horizon.

This falls in line with what production designer Patrick Tatopoulos said in an earlier interview. "Doomsday isn't just the final act," he teased, adding that the DC trinity -- Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman -- will actually face an even "larger threat."

However, it's worth pointing out that the image seems as though it's from a scene confirmed to be Bruce Wayne's hallucination. The same scene also appears to show a battalion of parademons, Darkseid's minions, which you can see in the gif below.

"[Director] Zack [Snyder] had a great idea of this sort of nightmare-ish vision, almost a vision of the future, a post-apocalyptic vision," costume designer Michael Wilkinson said of the scene. "It's like a dream that Ben [Affleck] has, so we wanted to, it has almost a 'Mad Max' quality to it where it's like the end of the world, trying to survive."

In the comics, Darkseid is ruler of the planet Apokolips and a member of the New Gods, an immortal race with extremely advanced technology. One of the most powerful beings in DC Comics, Darkseid hopes to conquer the universe and eliminate free will.

Directed by Zack Snyder, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits theaters March 25, 2016, and stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
