Today Apple unveiled its second-generation Apple TV, which will stream content from the Internet and mobile devices, including movies and TV shows from iTunes and Netflix, directly to television sets.

Officially announced at the company's upfront presentation, the updated version features a smaller design -- it's about the size of a hockey puck -- and a smaller price tag -- $99, a significant decrease from the $230 for the current model.

The new Apple TV, which will be available later this month, also will offer 99-cent HD television rentals (even for HD content) from ABC and Fox, and the capability to stream content from YouTube, Flickr and MobileMe.
