Executive producer Ryan Murphy is back to haunt viewers with the first tease of the seventh season of “American Horror Story.” Fair warning: This tease might make you rethink everything you love about elephants.
Murphy posted this creepy image on his Instagram account of a person wearing what one hopes is just an elephant mask. Knowing “American Horror Story,” this is probably a skinned baby elephant head, since the eye sockets in the illustration look less like eye holes, and more like hollowed-out sockets for real eyes. As if that wasn’t scary enough, the person wearing the elephant mask has a huge grin with lipstick slapped on their mouth. Did we need a Joker-elephant mashup? No. But now the image will stay seared into your brain.
There is a reason for the creepy elephant — we do know the upcoming season will gather its inspiration from a real life horror: Politics.
“This season is going to be about the election we just went through,” Murphy said on a February episode of Bravo’s “What What Happens Live!” “I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”
For many people, their own memories of 2016 are horrifying enough, so it’ll be quite the feat for Murphy to make the election cycle even scarier…
The seventh season of “American Horror Story” premieres in September on FX.
